Our group is busy sewing, sewing sewing, in order to provide FREE feminine hygiene kits to the girls at Narozari Rural School Uganda. It is a huge project for the wonderful ladies who have just joined to help with cutting and straight stitching while the serger is making her machine hum! The Allen Foundation has long thought of the issue for these young girls, and the impact it has on their ability to (a) enjoy life (b) attend school consistently and (c) know that people in a far away place genuinely care about them. Every stitch we make and every cut we do is with love for them. We developed a special logo showing the joy any girl will feel with the gift kit; something those of us who live in different circumstances take for granted.

Thank you donors for the scrap fabrics, and volunteering time to make these items. Helen Allen - Chair

2019 - We are once again sewing. Sewing to provide more kits for girls for both replacements and for girls who newly need them.

The 220 kits made in 2018 and shipped by pallet to  Uganda in October 2018 arrived in Uganda in February 2019 and customs held the pallet and another one from our Australian partners with both being released at the end of September - close to 12 months after packing.

Uganda and Tanzania inland revenue have both changed customs laws on incoming humanitarian donations.
We are just glad the items got there eventually but at a cost to the outstretched hands.

I am continuing to be most greatful to a member of our Board of Directors MaryAnn DeHaven plus another sewer, Celia as I could not accomplish labor to continue this necessary project without their help.

This time it is just 20 kits, very small when the last project was 220 kits; that means 320 liners, 40 shields; 20 drawstring bags;80 little pockets.  Into the kits also are 3 pair of girls undies; a face washer; little soaps will be puchase locally in Uganda ; and 2  1 gallon zip lock bags for washing and storing.  All kits are tagged with our foundation and "free".

We DO NOT SELL these kits they are donated to the girls fabricated with mostly donated cloth and donated labor.
We are going to look into the ability of the school girls learning to make them in sewing class with instruction and a machine The Allen Foundation purchased. -Helen Allen, Chair
