The Cherehani Project is a way for tax-deductible donations that are given to the
foundation for a sewing machine to be used to buy a new Butterfly Pedal Sewing Machines. The women of Singida, Tanzania can
use the income from their machine to provide food, housing, clothing, and medical care for their families (immediate and extended).
With the potential for self-employment with the help of a microloan required to obtain a sewing machine, the women can
sew school uniforms which are mandatory for children to attend school. This puts the future of their children's
education well within reach, because the cost of a child's education can be provided for without the loss of family income
for living. This also provides an honorable way for the women to not lose respect or "face" for themselves which is how hand
outs make people of their culture feel.
Unlike other programs in place The Cherehani Project is a way for the women to learn
the value of themselves by the pride from their work with their sewing machines.
The project is a way for these women to earn a potenially steady income
and improve their quality of life tenfold. As school uniforms are a required item necessary for any child to attend school,
this makes the supply and demand ratio highly in favor of the women that own a sewing machine and have the resources to buy
the materials needed to produce the uniforms.
The people of Africa are extremely talented in their artwork and in self initative therefore The
Cherehani Project gives the women a chance to branch out and expand their business from school uniforms to
various items from the beautiful and uncomparable textiles that are produced in Africa.
Microloans have a 98% repayment statistic which is an extremely positive
aspect when compared to the repayment of commerical loans.
